EMTM is the Master for students who are interested in the ethical and sustainability issues related with tourism and our communities. It challenges students to change the development paradigm and prepares tourism professionals to embrace the responsibility and to Lead Out in their societies, creating more sustainable and effective tourism institutions.
EMTM became in 2010 an Erasmus Mundus Master, which means it is a recognized European Master programme of excellence. Up to present over 200 students, coming from 57 nationalities have become part of the network. |
The EMTM Family
Three recognized tourism professors, Dr. Janne J. Liburd, Dr. Tanja Mihalič, and Dr. Jaume Guia, decided a decennia ago to join efforts to create a challenging environment for students that would allow them to openly discuss tourism and societal development issues, backed up through their diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Since the existence of EMTM, the master has been growing to an educational platform for engaged students to understand different perspectives on development and management.
EMTM is not only an educational platform, but even more; a tight network of tourism professionals who can count on each other, a network that is described by Violet, an EMTM 2014-2016 student, as:
"... a NET that sometimes WORKS as a safety-net, but most importantly as a family. And by 'family' we don't (just) mean the cliché, but also a crazy, dysfunctional and loving bunch of different beings".

Where do we come from?
Where do we study?
EMTM takes the students to three different European countries with a fourth semester dedicated to our Master thesis at one of the host or partner universities.
During the whole programme students are taught by internationally recognized professors. EMTM draws students together in a small Danish town called Kolding, where we meet for the first time at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), internationally recognized for its research in Sustainable Tourism Development. We then moved across the European continent to a vibrant capital hidden behind the Slovenian mountains, and study at the University of Ljubljana (FELU), which is renowned for its excellence in Environmental Management and Economics. The third semester takes us to the South of Europe at the University of Girona (UDG), Spain which is known for its research in Product Innovation and Destination Management. The last semester, we get the opportunity to choose a university to conduct our Master thesis which could be at one of the three institutions or other partner universities around the world. The partner universities are: - Sun-yat Sen University (Guangzhou, China) - Voronezh State University (Voronezh, Russian Federation) - Karaganda State University (Karaganda, Kazakhstan) - University of São Paolo, Fac. of Arts and Humanities (São Paolo, Brazil) - University of Cape Coast (Ghana) - Arizona State University (United States of America) - Thompson Rivers University (Canada) |
